An observant correspondent has tipped me off to two more wallmounted street signs. Each one is a real peach. So, to complete the set (for now)...
This is the southeast corner of Primrose Avenue at Empress Avenue - the end unit of a double house across the street from the Dominican University College, a bilingual college teaching philosophy and theology, and St-Jean-Baptiste Church.(The church's square tower contains Ottawa's second largest carillon, containing 47 bells. It was installed in 1940 and is now inactive. There is also a grotto on top of the tower, which is closed.)
The course of bricks under the signs has been stained by the corroding metal. Empress is missing an 'E'.
In Sandy Hill the northwest corner of Daly Avenue and Cumberland Street is marked with these signs. The letters have been highlighted with yellow paint. On the Cumberland side a door and window opening have been bricked up. Perhaps, like the building at Maclaren and Lyon, this was once a storefront.
I have another spot for the signs, Bayswater and Laurel.
ReplyDeleteLooks as if that "E" in "Empress" might have been damaged over the course of time.
